Depay’s absence a final damning summation of United’s recruitment
Memphis Depay didn’t make the bench for this match, a contest that turned out to be one of the few high points in what has been a numbing season for United. Much of the deflation the Red Devils have suffered has been, in part, as a result of Depay’s poor form.
Van Gaal: "Memphis Depay was not here? It is not true. He was here. It is tough he was outside of the squad for the Cup Final" #MUFC

That No. 7 shirt certainly seems a little heavier than the others, as the touted Depay flattered to deceive all season in it. Having stumbled all the way back to a strict role as a substitute, and with a new manager incoming, Depay’s future at the club is, somehow, in the balance. One season is not enough time to draw a definitive verdict on Depay, and many have called for him to be given more time to settle. But with Jesse Lingard smashing in an uproarious winner here, and Martial and Rashford taking a firm grip of their positions in the starting XI, Depay must be understandably nervous.
