Manchester Derby a lackluster affair

The Manchester derby which ended 0-0 between Manchester United and Manchester City, both champions elect, was a snooze-fest. Both teams cancelled each other out and it was particularly disappointing seeing how the Sky Blues played. Against an average United side, it was expected that City would take the game to the opposition and exploit what are glaring weaknesses in Louis van Gaal’s team. However, they came out defensively, employing Fernando with Fernandinho and Yaya Toure as an extra midfielder to screen the defence. meaning that some of the attacking thrust was sacrificed.

The decision nearly backfired and had Jesse Lingard’s late effort been a little lower, it would have been a deserved loss for Manuel Pelligrini and his men. The title race has never been as open as this, none of the contenders are infallible by no stretch of the imagination.

Harry the hat-trick hero

After his poor start to the season in front of goal, it was particularly pleasing seeing Harry Kane plundering so many in one game again. His hat-trick against newly promoted Bournemouth was an exhibition of clinical finishing and Eddie Howe’s team were slaughtered on their home soil.

Admittedly helped by some poor goalkeeping form Artur Boruc, Kane will not care as he will hope that this ends what has been a tough beginning to his second season. Whether he has figured out how to counteract the extra attention being given to him is another test altogether, but the English youngster passed this one with flying colors.
