James Milner scored the only goal from the penalty spot to secure the Reds a first home win since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp against Swansea last night.

Liverpool were in control of the match for long periods of time and managed to exploit their advantages. Just five minutes into the game, Klopp’s players could have already been up by a goal as an attack ended with Kyle Bartley’s unfortunate clearance hitting Swansea’s own post. The home team had much larger possession of the ball, making Garry Monk’s team stay in their half for most of the early stages.

Swansea’s attacks in the first-half were not as dangerous compared to those Liverpool generated, yet it was important for the Welsh side to make any kind of statement before the break. Later on, the rhythm of the match was much smaller, giving enough time for both teams to defend well against sloppy attacks. Liverpool were lucky enough to get a penalty, as a cross from the right-hand side ended hitting Neil Taylor’s arm and the referee Anthony Taylor pointed at the spot. Milner had no trouble defeating Lukasz Fabianski just after the hour-mark, which was enough for Reds to earn important points.
