Defensive mishaps cost Brendan his job

In the first-half they looked a much improved outfit, who showed signs of that attacking verve which served them so well two seasons ago. On the other hand, defensive howlers continued to plague Rodgers’ team and curtail hopes of engineering momentum for the season.

Liverpool have taken the lead in each of their past five games, yet have managed to win just one of those matches. That’s a damning statistic, one which has ultimately led to Rodgers losing his job.

Defensive mishaps were a common feature of the past three-and-a-bit years under Rodgers and had to be one of the tipping points for FSG and Liverpool’s board.
