Romelu Lukaku is a menace for defences

On a frustrating afternoon for Liverpool’s returning striker Daniel Sturridge and their talisman Philippe Coutinho, it was Belgian striker Lukaku who was the most influential attacking player on the field.

His personal battles with Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho saw him stretch the defenders and provide a number of nervy moments for the Reds throughout the match. Lukaku’s brute strength and adept foot skills were a highlight of his fine individual performance – the only blemish was a few loose balls played from deeper positions.

The frontman is revitalised after a subdued campaign last season and at 22 it is incredible to think what the future could hold for such a prodigious talent.
