Two teams who lack a cutting edge

The final third of the pitch was blighted by poorly executed through balls and passes. Throughout the match both teams struggled to assert themselves with any real conviction in attacking areas. Both midfields were were guilty of providing poor of support and an inability to properly link-up with the forwards, which was evident after half-time.

There was also a real lack of movement from both sides, who sat static waiting for it to happen rather than trying to engineer space and work an opening on goal.

It was glaringly obvious for Liverpool that they are in desperate need of more incisiveness in the attacking third, especially when their two key men in Coutinho and Sturridge have quieter days.

The apprehensive nature of the sides in the second-half was almost a carbon copy of the previous meeting at Goodison Park – timid and content to take a point.
