Kurt Zouma stars in a breakout performance

The 20 year old was undoubtedly Chelsea’s man of the match yesterday, in a performance that will go a long way toward cementing his spot in Mourinho’s starting lineup.

The Frenchman was superb, winning 100% of his aerial duels and tackles, highlighted by a crucial lunging challenge to halt Theo Walcott in his tracks as he looked to burst in behind the Blues defence.

A stinging criticism of Chelsea’s defence this season has been the lack of athleticism, and with Walcott starting up front, Mourinho made the tactical decision to drop captain John Terry in favour of Zouma, who is more adept to dealing with evasive forwards.

It proved to be the right move, as the Blues kept their first clean sheet of the campaign after leaking 12 goals in their first five matches. To cap-off a fine afternoon, the Frenchman scored his first league goal for Chelsea to further endear himself with the fans, in what could be a defining day for the youngster.
