Chelsea overcame London rivals Arsenal 2-0 at Stamford Bridge overnight to record their second league victory of the season, in a match overshadowed by some contentious officiating.

The champions were far more fluid throughout the first-half and had the Gunners penned back for large periods, as the visitors looked to counter-attack using the speed of Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez.

However, approaching halftime the match was turned on its head when Gabriel received a straight red for an alleged stamp on striker Diego Costa, who had earlier clashed with Laurent Koscielny, flaying his arm’s into the defenders face twice before shoving him to the ground.

Costa was extremely lucky to remain on the pitch, but the home side made full advantage of the numerical advantage. Chelsea took the lead on 53 minutes when Kurt Zouma opened his Premier League account, by heading home after a delightful ball into the box from Cesc Fabregas.

Santi Cazorla then picked up his second yellow card, leaving Arsenal to play out the remaining minutes with nine men. A deflected goal from Eden Hazard late on ensured Jose Mourinho continued his managerial dominance over Arsene Wenger.

After numerous physical instances between the two, Gabriel was shown red to the dismay of many observers
