Arsenal
David Ospina – 7: Wasn’t tested until the 39th, pushing out a searing shot from Carroll and pouncing on the deflection. Dived at Carroll’s feet in the 50th leaving Payet to score, but was saved by the linesman. Kept out a barrage of long range strikes in the second half.
Hector Bellerin – 5: A defensive lapse gave Lanzini a chance but the flag went up. Struggled to generate his usual run as a tough game played out, with his left side counterpart Monreal having no such trouble.
Laurent Koscielny – 7.5: Hurt early by a Carroll challenge but shook it off, and made several dashing runs through the middle. Volleyed into the roof of the net to draw the Gunners level in the 70th.
Gabriel – 4: Struggled for chemistry with the rest of the Arsenal defense, a lack of communication with Ospina allowing Carroll to head home for his third.
Nacho Monreal – 7: Denied a penalty in the 18th, but Ozil scored shortly afterward. Had space and time but was wayward at times going forward.
Francis Coquelin – 6: Set the physical tone early with a series of crashing tackles, but was caught out too often as the Hammers moved fluidly through the middle to take the lead. Taken off for Ramsey in the 61st.
Mohamed Elneny – 7: Close-checking but found room to run. Passing was crisp and tracked back well. Will be disappointed with his substitution.
Alex Iwobi – 7.5: Cut through the Hammers’ defense to find Ozil for Arsenal’s first. Lobbed over the pack to Sanchez for the second. Wasn’t able to find as much space in the second half.
Mesut Ozil – 7: Opened the scoring in the 18th, played in by Iwobi. Was reasonably quiet for the rest of the first half, before playing the ball back in for Koscielny to score in the 70th.
Alexis Sanchez – 7.5: Dangerous early, spinning and cutting through West Ham’s right side. Fired past Adrian for Arsenal’s second.
Danny Welbeck – 6: Struggled for touch early, locked down by Reid. Impressed with his work rate, harassing Hammers goalkeeper Adrian throughout the match. Came off for Walcott in the 81st.
Substitutes
Aaron Ramsey – 4.5: Came on for Coquelin with half an hour left. Struggled to make an impact in a physical match.
Olivier Giroud – 5: Came on for Elneny in the 68th. Wasn’t able to impose his size on a hotly contested game, looking somewhat off the pace.
Theo Walcott – N/A: Came on for Welbeck in the 81st, in somewhat of a surprise. Had little time to impact the game.
