In-demand Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is now on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur as the transfer window enters its last week.
Mauricio Pochettino wants another attacking-midfielder for his squad, with player agent Bektas Demirtas today confirming the Premier League side have made contact regarding the 22-year-old’s services.
“It is true that Tottenham have registered their interest with me. We are looking at it,” Demirtas told the Express.
“Hakan wants to stay at Leverkusen. He only recently had a good chat with [coach] Roger Schmidt. He knows that he will need to improve and he’s very ambitious. He wants to achieve the set goals with Schmidt.”
The playmaker has also previously expressed a desire to evolve his game at the BayArena, but has so far struggled to cement a place in the starting XI, registering just three goals across the 2015-16 Bundesliga campaign.
It is rumoured that an offer above €30 million from the Londoners could be enough to see the deal happen, but Pochettino’s hopes may be dashed after Leverkusen’s star striker Javier Hernandez suffered a broke hand on Tuesday – ruling the Mexican out for two weeks and putting more responsibility on Calhanoglu.
With a number of surplus names – including the likes of Nacer Chadli, Ryan Mason and DeAndre Yedlin – expected to exit White Hart Lane, Tottenham reportedly want to sign three new creative players before next week’s deadline.
