Borussia Monchengladbach

Yann Sommer – 5.5: Will be disappointed to have given away a penalty and conceded with the side so dominant, but marshaled his defence well and was strong otherwise.

Julian Korb – 6: Based on the right-side of a competent defence, Korb is now a mainstay of this backline and while not spectacular, hardly put a foot wrong.

Andreas Christensen – 7: The youngster didn’t make a tackle, but won three aerial duels, and passed at nearly 90% accuracy throughout. Quickly endearing himself to the Gladbach faithful.

Alvaro Dominguez – 6.5: Tackled well and was strong in the air, him and Christensen pair well in central defence, and the Spaniard should keep his spot going forward.

Oscar Wendt – 7.5: A brilliant performance at left-back, with strong tackling, winning presence in the air, and an assist to top it all off. Nico Schulz will do well to get this spot in the near future.

Mahmoud Dahoud – 9: A magnificent performance from the youngster; scoring one, setting up another and winning Die Fohlen a penalty near the end to top it all off. Brilliant display.

Granit Xhaka – 7: Textbook Xhaka display; resolute and strong in central midfield without been flashy, and his consistency makes it clear he is the lynchpin of this side, at only 23.

Ibrahima Traore – 7: Was strong on the ball with a number of dribbles and was never afraid to take on a player. Also covered his defensive duties well, dropping back to help Julian Korb when needed.

Fabian Johnson – 7: After a turbulent break in the U.S national team, Johnson returned with endeavour and was hungry down the left; unlucky to hit the post and not get more.

Lars Stindl – 7.5: It should now be clear to all that Stindl truly belongs up top in this side, and he was strong here once more, and like Johnson was unfortunate to only hit the frame.

Raffael – 8.5: The livewire Brazilian was back to his best this time out with two goals, but his general hassle of the Frankfurt defence made chances for his teammates too.

Substitutes

Andre Hahn – 8: The only sub to have an impact, Hahn scored twice after replacing Raffael in the 75th minute, and is pushing a case to be reinstated to the starting XI.
