Brisbane Roar moved to the top of the A-League ladder with a well deserved 2-1 victory over the Central Coast Mariners this afternoon.

In an attacking game the hosts were able to make the most of their opportunities and see out the result, even though a late Mariners goal kept everyone’s hearts beating.

Brisbane Roar

Michael Theo – 7: Will be unhappy to not end up with a clean sheet, but provided top class distribution throughout the whole game.

Corey Brown – 6.5: Excelled throughout his duel with Fabio Ferreira and kept his man under wraps in the second-half.

Daniel Bowles – 7: Looks to be at home in the heart of defence, making Roy O’Donovan look invisible.

Jade North – 7: North marshalled the defence well and was unfortunate to concede late on after a lack of concentration.

Jack Hingert – 7.5: Won his duel with Mitch Austin and was lively in attack. Linked well with Brandon Borrello and continues to keep Jerome Polenz out of the starting team.

Corona – 8.5: How good can he get? The Spaniard was once again the midfield general, controlling the pace and beginning almost every attack. May be the find of the season.

Matt McKay (c) – 8: Captain fantastic was energetic all game. Added an extra spark to the Roar midfield and will be happy with his first performance of the season.

Steven Lustica – 7: Combined well with McKay and Corona, looking settled and will hope to have a run of games in the first team after such a positive start to the season.

Thomas Broich – 8: Is there anything this player cannot do? He was back to his skillful and impressive best, looks to be a veteran helping the youngsters step up. Integral for the team.

Jamie Maclaren – 8.5: Was a nuisance all game as his energy and willingness to run his lungs out helps give the team a boost across the field. Provided two assists and linked-up magically with Borrello.

Brandon Borrello – 9: Scored two well-taken goals linking with Maclaren on both occasions. A majestic afternoon showing, with a lot of promise as part of an exciting front-three for Brisbane.

Substitutions

Dimitri Petratos – 6: Injected some energy into the game and saw the victory out.
