Canines are supposed to be man’s best friend. But is this the one crime that can break that friendship?
It is the date football-loving gamers across the globe crave annually: the release date of EA Sports’ yearly football masterpiece, FIFA.
The day, in this case, 24 September, usually becomes a total write-off for new owners of the game. Whether it means constructing an Ultimate Team or building up a head of steam in the infancy of a fresh career mode, 24 hours are usually spent holed up in front of the TV.
But for one gamer, the day quickly turned pear-shaped. ‘Karl’ found his prized copy of the game in pieces after arriving home from work. Turns out his dog had gone to town on the game in his absence.
@shoptonet thanks for the quick delivery but I think my dog wanted to have a go on @EASPORTSFIFA before I got home.?? pic.twitter.com/ZIO8pjlC1O

The disc was so mangled that it did not even fit in his Play Station 4 disc drive. That led the Watford fan to appeal to EA in the Twittersphere.
@shoptonet @EASPORTSFIFA just found the disk. It won’t fit in the PlayStation with all the bites ? pic.twitter.com/CUu6EkmcWA — Karl (@karlkaszuba) September 23, 2015
@karlkaszuba Hi Karl, we’ll DM you and get you sorted with a replacement — EA SPORTS FIFA (@EASPORTSFIFA) September 24, 2015
Today has been a very strange day. Was twitter famous ? thanks to @EASPORTSFIFA for sending me a new copy of FIFA 16. — Karl (@karlkaszuba) September 24, 2015
All’s well that ends well. EA Sports, seemingly pitying Karl, sent him a brand spanking new replacement copy.
Let’s see if the fairy-tale can translate onto the field – will Karl reach Division One, or secure unlikely domestic glory with the Hornets?
