As time runs out for Mario Balotelli and Liverpool FC to finally part ways before September 1st, a surprise suitor for the Italian’s signature has been revealed.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Jose Mourinho will welcome the troubled striker at Manchester United, in a move that would see the two reunited from their time at Inter Milan.

After it became clear that he has no future under Jurgen Klopp, recent weeks have seen the Italian international linked with a plethora of destinations, from a handful Premier League and Serie A clubs to FC Sion of Switzerland, although wage demands are said to have ruled many clubs out of the running.

A few weeks ago, it was widely reported that good friends Balotelli and Mourinho met to discuss the player’s future – a chat that may have been the Portuguese manager sending a message to his board, declaring his intentions to resurrect the career of the former powerhouse.

A key piece to this puzzle is ‘super-agent’ Mino Raiola, who possesses Balotelli on his lengthy list of clients. Raiola is no stranger to dealing with United, having already commissioned the high-profile transfers of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrik Mkhitaryan this window.

With the figures of Mourinho and Raiola involved, there is an outside chance that the former Manchester City man may well finding himself lining up for the Red Devils this season.
