Darmstadt 98 brought crashing down to Earth and it is not going to get much easier
Darmstadt’s unbeaten start to the season (including a victory against Bayer Leverkusen) is a credit to the team that Dirk Schuster has built. The man who has overseen an historic and remarkable double promotion which got Die Lillen to this level will have been delighted with how his side adapted to Bundesliga life early in the season. However, it was not always going to last and their encounter with Bayern Munich is a reminder that this is still the German top tier and Schuster still has his work cut out for him to establish Darmstadt 98 as a Bundesliga side.
The coach will be happy that this particular game is behind them, yet on Tuesday night they will be going into another tough test when hosting Werder Bremen. Darmstadt will be buoyed by Ingolstadt’s ability to defeat Bremen, yet this does not change the level of difficulty that the game will pose. With the opposition, and the 3-0 defeat to Bayern which could shake the confidence of Die Lillen, Tuesday will prove to be a very big game in the team’s season.
