Two of this season’s unbeaten sides met on Saturday night as underdogs Darmstadt 98 hosted German heavyweights Bayern Munich.

Despite all of their resilience, Darmstadt could not keep out the Bavarians, as last season’s Bundesliga champions ran out 3-0 winners to maintain their 100% record.

Munich opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Douglas Costa, cutting in from the right-hand side, laid-off Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal who composed himself before smashing the ball in off of Christian Mathenia’s left-hand post. Darmstadt could have equalised twice before half-time, but Dominik Stroh-Engel was unable to put away the chances.

Pep Guardiola’s side maintained their dominance in the second-half and doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute. After beating his man out on the right-hand side, Sebastian Rode cut the ball back to Kingsley Coman who tucked the ball away. It was 3-0 a minute later when Rode scored himself, after his initial shot had hit the post.
