Ingolstadt are a tough opponent, but goals are hard to come by.

Despite this defeat, the promoted Ingolstadt have proved hard to defeat. Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men were the better side in the first-half, completely frustrating the BayArena outfit. They significantly shunned Leverkusen in a possession sense, resulting in the travelling side failing to link up well.

It was Marvin Matip with the best chance in the early stages, his volley from outside the box was just wide of the post. Before falling behind, the Audi Sportpark outfit came agonisingly close to scoring. Bernd Leno blocked Alfredo Morales volley attempt, forcing Leverkusen’s Wendell to make a goal-line clearance after nearly putting it into his own net.

A lot of newly promoted teams often struggle from the get go, but Ingolstadt have been a tricky customer in 2015-16. They have racked up 20 points after the half-way mark of the season, it is not a bad effort considering they have mustered just one point from their last four domestic outings.

Ingolstadt have scored just five goals in their last nine showdowns and 11 for the season, the worst in the competition. However, the new boys have conceded just 18 goals, the equal second best defensive record along with Hertha Berlin.

They are five points clear of 16th placed Werder Bremen and possess a much better goal difference. Ingolstadt once again proved how good their defence can be, but it was not enough to get a positive outcome, more goals must
come.
