SV Darmstadt 98

Christian Mathenia – 5: Could not do anything about Vidal’s opening goal and was left unprotected for the other two goals. His two saves kept the scoreline from getting out of hand and will not likely have much busier days this season.

Fabian Holland – 4: Was unable to cope with the threat posed by Douglas Costa and allowed him inside for Vidal’s goal. Was out of position for Rode’s goal and was turned far too easily by Rode for Coman’s goal.

Luca Caldirola – 5.5: Kept Gotze quite all afternoon which meant the German did not have any effect until dropped deeper in the second half.

Aytec Sulu – 5.5: Similar to Caldirola, kept Gotze quiet, but was dragged towards goal for the second and afforded Rode too much space for the third.

Gyorgy Garics – 3.5: Was run ragged by Coman on the left-hand side and never really looked like stopping the young Frenchman. Was caught on his heels which allowed Coman to drift inside for the second goal.

Konstantin Rausch – 3.5: Was missing for most of the game and did not offer enough support to Holland against Douglas Costa. Was not in the required covering position which allowed Rode to find space down the right for the third goal.

Jerome Gondorf – 6: Was arguably Darmstadt’s brightest player going forward on the day. His cross on the left presented a chance for Stroh-Engel at the back post which the striker should have finished off.

Peter Nieyemeyer – 4: Much like the Darmstadt midfield in general, he was completely overrun by the midfield of Vidal, Rode and Kimmich.

Marcel Heller – 5.5: Was better going forward than Rausch on the other side. Offered the unsteady Bernat problems down the right-hand side.

Tobias Kempe – 4: Was kept relatively quiet throughout the game by Kimmich. Offered as much support as possible for Stroh-Engel.

Dominik Stroh-Engel – 5.5: Provided food for thought for Alaba and Boateng in the Bayern defence. Was unable to finish when presented with two good chances in the first half.

Substitutes

Sandro Wagner – 3.5: Was introduced for Stroh-Engel in the 59th minute but was unable to make any sort of impact when on the field. Was booked in the 73rd minute.

Jan Rosenthal – 5: Was introduced for Nieyemeyer in the 69th minute. Steadied the ship a little bit in midfield and lessened the impact of Rode going forward.

Mario Vrancic – 4: Was introduced in the 77th minute for the ineffective Rausch and was unable to make any sort of impact in the time he was given.
