Everton striker Arouna Kone was delighted having scored twice in Everton’s 4-0 EFL Cup victory over Yeovil town with contract talks looming.

The upbeat forward stated the importance of having got in the scoresheet after returning from injury.

“For me it is very important as a striker to score goals and I have to score to keep my confidence,” Kone said.

“I am feeling very well now but I am not 100 per cent, I think I am now about 70 to 80 per cent.”

“I was very unlucky with the injuries but I am very positive in my head and I have to give 100 per cent for myself and this club.”

Manager Ronald Koeman is noted to be in the market for a striker this has not deterred Kone who has formally worked with the Dutchman.

“We have a very good manager. I knew him before and played with him in Holland at PSV and he will improve us.”

Kone will be fighting desperately to maintain his place in the squad, and with a former manager in charge his future looks secure. A troublesome knee may unravel his hard work though.

“Last week I was with the team, before I was with the physio to do my training because in the holiday I had an operation on my knee.”

Everton are certainly light on striker options with the departure of Oumar Niasse early in transfer window. They remain in the market for further options.
