Sydney FC’s unbeaten start to the season has ended after a 4-2 defeat to Melbourne Victory at Allianz Stadium.

A goal filled first-half saw the Sky Blues take the lead in the opening five minutes through Filip Holosko. Sydney’s new marquee man only had to tap it in after some brilliant work down the left-flank from Alex Gersbach.

Victory equalised five minutes later through a stunning Besart Berisha strike. Sydney were able to retake the lead after Shane Smeltz’s initial shot was saved by Danny Vukovic; Alex Brosque there to poke in the goalkeeper’s parry.

Parity was restored in the 28th minute through Gui Finkler. The Brazilian was given lots of space in the box and his shot was able to squeeze between Vedran Janjetovic and the near post.

At the restart, after a few changes to the Victory, Sydney were dominant for majority of the half. However, it was the Victory who found the back of the net with 20 minutes to go. Finkler’s initial shot was deflected with the ball falling to Barbarouses who shot it past Janjetovic.

Berisha sealed the win in injury time, waltzing down the left-flank, cutting inside and finishing coolly.
