Test of depth

With Carl Valeri out suspended from his FFA Cup final red card, four Olyroos missing due to international duty and big question marks over Kosta Barbarouses, Kevin Muscat had to make some changes. The decision to start Barbarouses on the bench, with Broxham pushing forward into the midfield, Thomas Deng coming into the centre of defence with Dylan Murnane in the full back role.

Although the teams entered the break on level terms, Muscat reshuffled his line-up at half time, introducing Barbarouses in place of Deng, pushing Finkler back into the midfield and Broxham into defence.

While the Melbourne side were thoroughly outplayed for large portions of the second half, the Victory were good enough on the counter to ultimately take the lead and seal the win.

The depth of this squad will no doubt be tested again and Muscat can take solace in the fact that he has assembled a team capable of getting results.
