Roar play with impressive fluidity

The Brisbane Roar showcased shades of the football they played under Ange Postecoglou on Sunday in their victory over the Mariners. The midfield trio of Corona, Lustica and McKay comfortably won the battle in the centre of the park, with Corona again displaying his class on the ball and McKay’s tireless work off the ball pivotal. The front three of Brandon Borello, Thomas Broich and Jamie Maclaren was equally good, with Borello netting a brace, assisted both times by Maclaren and Broich his usual playmaking self. On another day, the Roar may have scored three or four and it is evident that the Queenslanders have goals in them.

Encouraging attendance at Lang Park

The attendance of 14,471 was more than double the figure from the corresponding fixture last season, an indication that the Roar are on the right track after experiencing a number of off-field setbacks in the offseason. John Aloisi appears to have navigated the Roar past the rough seas of the off-field drama they encountered in preseason and will be delighted with the way his side have begun the campaign.
