Outside90’s Jarrod McAleese discusses the big issues to emerge from matchday 2 of the 2015-16 A-League season.

Adelaide fail to show incision or desire

After a largely uneventful 0-0 draw first up against defending champions Melbourne Victory, Adelaide United supporters would have expected a more potent attacking display against a Wanderers side that conceded three goals in a half at home to the Brisbane Roar. However this did not eventuate, as though United took the lead in the 21st minute via an Andreu own goal, they did not push on and attempt to bury the game. United were content to sit on their lead and were eventually punished as they conceded a late equaliser. In addition to the lack of commitment to chase a second goal, a lacklustre performance from Eli Babalj and Bruce Djite’s continued absence will be giving Guillermo Amor concerns about where the goals are going to come from in the near future.

Andreu goes from zero to hero

Wanderers Spaniard Andreu managed to find the net for both sides; his own goal which put United in front was cancelled out by his 83rd-minute leveller. Andreu inadvertently turned the ball into his own goal in his attempt to block Tarek Elrich’s cross. The ball took a wicked deflection and looped over Andrew Redmayne, putting the Wanderers behind for the second time in as many weeks. However, Andreu dusted himself off to drag his side out of the mire, capitalising on a poor clearance from the usually reliable Elrich to find the top corner from inside the area. A point away from home will be welcomed by Tony Popovic and Andreu’s second half finish will likely see his first half indiscretion forgiven.
