Melbourne City midfielder Luke Brattan has voiced his club’s ambition to become the benchmark in Australian football ahead of tomorrow night’s home FFA Cup clash against Western Sydney Wanderers.

In what has been a particularly busy off-season, head coach John Van’t Schip has bolstered his squad with a number of high profile signings, none bigger than the Socceroos all-time top goalscorer, Tim Cahill.

Speaking exclusively on the Daily Football Show, Brattan said: “We want to be successful. We want to be the biggest club in the A-League. We’re doing everything we can to be that.”

“At the end of the day, we’re about winning trophies, and we’re going to do what we can to do that.

“We just want to win some trophies for the club, Melbourne City, for the fans and obviously the City group (CFG) as a whole.”

The re-signing of Golden Boot winner Bruno Fornaroli on a bumper new contract should prove to be an inspired move, along with a host of new acquisitions.

The announcement of Boca Juniors ace Nicolas Colazo’s signing is imminent, while the introduction of Danish defender Michael Jakobsen, ball-playing midfielder Neil Kilkenny and Argentine striker Fernando Brandan underline City’s title ambitions.

The former Brisbane Roar star is confident that his new club have made positive strides in attaining the status as the league’s most attractive proposition.

“By the look of things, we’re going in the right direction,” he said.

City’s over-reliance on Aaron Mooy was a consistent criticism last season, but the 26-year-old believes that a number of new options in midfield will help to produce a consistent and recognisable style.

“We’re going to see a bit of a different style to last year but it’s definitely going to be entertaining.”

City’s match against the Wanderers kicks off at 7:30pm at AAMI Park, with a spot in the FFA Cup semi-finals at stake.
