Manchester United 4 Manchester City 3, September 2009

Comebacks, pressure, traitors, dramatic late goals, this game had all the hallmarks of a classic derby. Tensions were high leading into this game following former United forward Carlos Tevez’s decision to switch over to Manchester City in the summer.

Despite leaving with a loss, City were superb in this game, coming from behind three times to level the scores. The game looked set to end at 3-3 before a generous allotment of added time allowed United to forge one last attack.

It was former Liverpool striker Michael Owen, who had once tormented United representing their other biggest rivals, who was to be the hero on this day. Owen did as he had done countless times before, slipping unmarked into the penalty area to poke home a half-chance from close-range. The goal sent United supporters into raptures, delivering a 4-3 win in what was one of the most thrilling derby finishes in Premier League history.
