Melbourne divided once more

With the city having maintained only one top-flight presence since the inception of the A-League, before which Melbourne Knights, South Melbourne and a host of other clubs battled it out in the NSL, the formation of Melbourne Heart was an important step for the growing competition.
The first ever meeting between the clubs took place in front of a sell-out crowd at AAMI Park, and the match lived up to the hype.

John Aloisi headed home a cross from Alex Terra to give Heart the lead in the 10th minute, before Robbie Kruse latched onto a pass from Kevin Muscat to tie the game in the 37th.
It was the new kids on the block that emerged victorious however, with Terra scoring one of his own in the 56th minute to seal an upset win for Heart.
