At a heaving Allianz Stadium, the Sky Blues denied the Wanderers victory in the Sydney Derby for the seventh consecutive time, with both teams taking a point.

Here are the three players that stood up when the stakes were high.

Dario Vidosic (Western Sydney Wanderers)

After scoring to level the scores in the last Sydney Derby, it was Vidosic that gave the Wanderers the lead just 13 minutes into Saturday night’s thriller, his glancing header floating out of the reach of Vedran Janjetovic.

The former Adelaide forward was rarely sighted in the second half, but he was one of few players on the field to capitalise in a key moment.

Matt Jurman (Sydney FC)

With Seb Ryall lacking urgency, Jacques Faty rarely sighted and Rhyan Grant often pushing well up the field, Jurman was all that stood between the Wanderers and a drought breaking derby win, and he stood tall.

Following an early altercation with Western Sydney goal keeper Liam Reddy that resulted in a yellow card for both men, Jurman was a rock in the Sky Blues’ back four and his side’s best on the night.

Matt Simon (Sydney FC)

Often maligned by fans for his poor Sydney FC career to date, Simon was a consistent threat for the Sky Blues on Saturday night, denied on multiple occasions by Liam Reddy.

Substituted off in the 65th minute for Shane Smeltz, Simon was denied any further opportunities to give his new side the ascendancy, but he may have won a few new fans.
