Inconsistency may plague Stoke

After three wins on the trot for the Potters, expectations will have been high that Mark Hughes’ side can continue their good form with a home victory against a newly-promoted side.

But the hosts learned a harsh lesson, as it became clear that Watford were not there just to rollover. The likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Bojan were excellent at Swansea, but were not able to replicate anything like the same performance on Saturday afternoon.

While there is clearly some great talent in the side, they must remember that they need to be at it every week – not just the games which look easier on paper.

Quique Sanchez Flores is brilliant tactically:

Flores has impressed with his tactical game-plans on more than one occasions this season, and the same can be said for the outing at the Britannia.

The Hornets have held Manchester City and Arsenal for long periods this season by keeping compact and they managed the same to nullify the threat of Bojan and Shaqiri.

While the attacking players were quiet, the visitors also ramped up the pressure on Stoke’s backline, forcing them into silly mistakes. One of these led to the second goal, a victory for Flores’ tactical skills.
