An impressive away performance was rewarded for Watford, who recorded their third win of the season against the in-form Stoke on Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets had threatened early on, with Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney both hitting the crossbar within 10 seconds of each other. The latter would eventually break the deadlock, bending home his first Premier League goal from the edge of the area to the delight of the traveling support.

Stoke were error-strewn throughout and gifted the Hornets a further advantage midway through the second half, as Ighalo tackled Marc Wilson and teed up Almen Abdi. The Swiss playmaker still had plenty to do, but he struck home with aplomb to seal the victory.

The last 20 minutes was uneventful and Quique Sanchez Flores’ side comfortably held on to an impressive three points.

Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo will cause problems for all defences

Onlookers of Watford games so far this season will know that Deeney and Ighalo have continued the impressive link-up play which got the Hornets into the Premier League last season.

Though the elephant in the room has always been so far that Deeney was not getting on the score-sheet.

Now that that monkey is off his back, Flores will be desperately hoping that the kind of play which led to the goal, a wonderful flick from Ighalo opening up the space for his partner, can continue.

If both men consistently score and perform as they did on Saturday afternoon, then Watford are surely going to avoid relegation with ease this season.
