Ryan Shawcross believes recent results prove that Stoke City are still capable of finishing 2016-17 in the Premier League’s top half.
The Potters are yet to win a game this season and sit 19th on the table with only three points, however, Mark Hughes’ men showed some fight in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.
Having also shared the spoils with West Brom the week prior, captain Shawcross claims his side are growing in confidence with each game.
“We needed a positive result on Sunday, but more importantly a positive performance, even if we had lost,” said Shawcross to the Stoke Sentinel.
“So it was good to get that and a point going into the internationals and hopefully the lads come back fit and we can kick on from there.
“I wasn’t too disappointed to draw against West Brom because I know that if we perform like that through the season, we’ll have a good season.
“If we can carry on doing that for the rest of the campaign then I’m pretty certain we’ll finish around the same point as last season.”
Stoke will come back from this week’s international break to face bottom placed Sunderland on the 16th of October.
