Fernandinho is a different player this season

Fernandinho reacted the quickest to score City’s second of the night after Sergio Rico did well to stop Bony’s shot but only managed to lay it off to the midfielder, who’s header was clinical to say the least. The Brazilian has exceeded all expectations this season and has been his side’s most consistent performer right from the start. The 30-year-old is in his third campaign at City and by far this has his best.

He failed to impress in his first two seasons, which included some poor performances, mistakes, suspensions and injury. But he now looks to be a completely different player and a good one at that. Apart from providing a shield to his defence, Fernandinho has also managed to muster a few goals in the process. He already has scored as many as he did in the whole of last season (three). He has played almost every minute of City’s games and with this current form, one would not doubt him to continue that into the New Year.

There is still one spot to grab and it will interesting to see if Sevilla can beat all odds and outplay a struggling Juventus to advance to the next phase of the Champions League.
