Manchester City became the first English side to qualify for the next stage of the Champions league, courtesy of other results in their group and a 3-1 win over Sevilla.

That is to take nothing away from Pellegrini’s side though, who were excellent on the night and came away deserved victors. Three first-half goals from Raheem Sterling, Fernandinho and Wilfried Bony were enough to ensure a crucial away victory for the Citizens. Benoit Tremoulinas grabbed a consolation goal for Sevilla, but it was not enough to halt the visitors from dominating the match.

What is more impressive is that City won with a side that did not include the likes of Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne. The English league-leaders showed exactly how strong their depth really is, with Jesus Navas, Sterling, Fernandinho and Yaya Toure all putting in quality performances.
