A very lethargic display from the man who only a few days prior scored four against Malmo. Could there be a missing underlying factor?
The answer is yes according to Spanish sports publication Marca.
An ongoing knee injury has been the cause of his inconsistency as the 30-year-old insisted to continue to play despite the pain. It was first injured in the 2013-14 campaign but it appears to have re-occurred and hampered his style and effectiveness in the past three months.
However they believe he has almost shaken off the injury.
Just as well because Real will be needing all of their big guns blazing to catch Barcelona.
