No Ramos equals defensive woes

The Spaniard is and has long been a veteran of the Madridista defence and is for the most part the anchor of the Real back line.

His injury comes at an inconvenient time for coach Rafael Benitez, who, while having an abundance of choice in attack, does not have the same quality in defence.

The injuries sustained by Ramos and fellow defended Marcelo put the squad in a state of peril due to a lack of order in the back line.

While Alvaro Arbeloa could well enter the mix, the likes of Pepe in a central-defensive role does not bode well for Madridistas as his inconsistent play and fiery nature can and have at times put him and his side into a downward spiral.

In this case, he must be consistent and accurate as well as be assertive to structure the back line and stop the defence from being caught off-guard like what occurred on several occasions after the substitution of Ramos in the loss to Sevilla.

It feels as though the midfield will have and extra workload in the coming weeks but we can only hope the injury to Ramos is not as bad as first thought.
