Clint Hill

The one positive to come out last night’s team selection was former captain Clint Hill. The 37-year-old bleeds blue and white and only the injured Jamie Mackie rivals his dedication to the club. His style of play, while not always pretty, is effective and his effort is admirable.

Hill made a couple of goal denying tackles during the 90 minutes and was perhaps lucky not to be sent-off for a last man challenge on Modou Sougou just before halftime. Sougou had almost left Hill for dead, but the Merseyside man threw a leg out and brought the forward down. No doubt a dubious challenge, but the experience and determination to make such tackles proved invaluable in holding on to a point.

Hill’s introduction also pushed Nedum Onouha out to right-back to replace James Perch. It was obvious the Onouha benefitted from Hill’s presence, as Rangers recorded their second clean sheet of the season.
