Ighalo and Deeney forming an exceptional strike partnership

There are plenty of positives that can be taken from Watford’s impressive start to life in the Premier League and at the top of the list is the blossoming strike partnership between Ighalo and Deeney. The two have developed a telepathic understanding of each other’s game and this has not just been instinctive. The fruitfulness of the partnership has clearly been honed on the training ground and it is certainly bearing fruit on the pitch. Hornets fans know that if they find Ighalo and Deeney around the box they will create chances and both took their goals with customary ease on Saturday. Already nine points clear of the drop, Watford are sitting pretty on the table.

Vardy the hero, but Ranieri outsmarts van Gaal

Congratulations to Jamie Vardy who has now scored in 11 consecutive games, a record in the top flight. It was fitting that he scored it against the former club of the previous holder of the record, Ruud van Nistlerooy. Vardy latched onto a scrumptious through ball from left-back Christian Fuchs and dragged the ball to the right of David De Gea. It was a proud moment for a player who has had to fight to reach the top and has taken his chance. For all the plaudits going Vardy’s way, however, some should be reserved for his manager Claudio Ranieri. His tactical master plan in the shape of a compact 4-4-2 outnumbered United in key areas, stifling Louis van Gaal’s 3-4-1-2 in the process. Although first position was lost, Leicester remain in second ahead of Saturday’s opponents.
