The Victory out-possess and out-counter Wellington

Other than a few counter-attacking threats by the New Zealanders, the Victory was dominant throughout the match. Their patient passing, build-up play and chance creation was top drawer and to do this against a technically sound Phoenix side that Ernie Merrick had also set-up to hold possession made the 3-0 win all the more impressive.

The Phoenix defence struggle again

It was the fourth time in a row the Phoenix had conceded first in their four matches this season. Even with skipper Andrew Durante returning from injury, the  defence was troubled all night by the home side’s front three, scrambling to try and keep up deal with Berisha, Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Barbarouses. One will be left wondering if their focus elsewhere this evening, with all the speculation surrounding their future (or lack thereof)?
