Gabi needs to control himself
While the captain can rue his luck, a second yellow card in a game has been a long time coming for the aggressive and combative midfielder. Gabi has accumulated seven yellows so far this campaign but it is these two yellow cards that may have a part to play come the end of the season. While it is still early in the campaign, Atléti had a great opportunity to put distance between themselves and third, putting themselves at the summit of the league in the process.
However, Gabi’s dismissal created a huge obstacle for his side to get even a point from the game, with Málaga dominating and having a number of good chances after his departure. Being captain, and an experienced one at that, Gabi cannot afford to walk the yellow card tightrope as his style of play can result in more calamities in other important games.
