Signs of improvement from the Reds attack, but lack final conviction

It has been made perceptible that Adelaide’s only goals this campaign have come from two opposition players hitting the ball into their own nets. However, while the lack of goals has been an issue in itself, the infrequency in which chances were being mustered was arguably the bigger dilemma, because the goals will eventually come – well as the theory goes anyway. Nevertheless, Sergio Cirio, Craig Goodwin and even Tarek Elrich all managed to get their respective shots on target, forcing goalkeeper Jamie Young to react. However, the absence of conviction was best encapsulated by Cirio’s second-half lob. After eluding the attentions of defender Jade North, the Spaniard failed to convert a golden opportunity as his nonchalant attempted chip over Young showed to be the wrong decision.

Jamie Maclaren could be the signing of the year

The 22-year-old left Perth Glory at the conclusion of last season to seek regular playing time and the youngster has certainly delivered. The striker has been in prolific goal scoring form this year with three goals to his name and if he can maintain his solid start he could potentially be the purchase of the winter. Aloisi has entrusted his faith in Maclaren to lead the line at such a young age and the forward is beginning to reciprocate that faith shown by the former Melbourne Heart boss.
