Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed the loan signing of Nicolas Martinez from Olympiacos.
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder has been signed as a marquee for season 2016/17 and will wear the No. 10 jersey.
Martinez has over 160 senior first-team appearances for various clubs in Europe and South America, including Spain, Greece, Chile, Cyprus and Argentina, where he began his career with Independiente.
Playing under the guidance of Tony Popovic was a big motivation for Martinez to make the move to Australia.
“I spoke with the coach and after that my decision was clear,” said Martinez.
“I know that in 2014 they won the AFC Champions League and last season were only one point off first place. I come to a great team – one of the best in Australia.
“I’m very happy. After a long wait it’s happened and now I’m focusing on working with the team. I would like to try and help the team and to achieve the most that we can.”
