Perth continued to charge towards the A-League finals with a 2-1 win over the Wellington Phoenix earlier this afternoon.

Andy Keogh gave the Westerners the lead just after the half-hour mark in a back and forth battle, with Kenny Lowe’s defence able to negate any momentum that the Phoenix were able to generate. Diego Castro doubled the lead in the late stages with an easy tap-in after some confusion in the box from Glen Moss.

A long-range rocket from Tom Doyle pulled one back for the hosts, who will be disappointed to have ended the contest completely empty-handed, while Perth climb up to fifth on the table.

Wellington Phoenix

Glen Moss – 6: Was kept busy throughout the match and made some decent saves.

Tom Doyle – 5.5: A decent performance by Doyle. He continues to pick up needless yellows, however, recorded a decent consolation goal from long-range.

Ben Sigmund – 4: Another okay run for the veteran and is always solid in the tackle. Saw an early yellow.

Andrew Durante – 3: Was substituted at halftime when a captain’s performance was needed.

Manny Muscat – 5: Better than he has been in previous weeks, but still looks like his mind is on other matters.

Albert Riera – 6.5: The pick of the Phoenix players. His consistency is superb – quality defending, passing and movement.

Roly Bonevacia – 4.5: Was well off his game tonight. Wellington really need him to perform to succeed as a whole.

Alex Rodriguez – 4.5: Playing better football following his extended midfield, run but still yet to find his form.

Hamish Watson – 5: Still trying to play his way into a contract but could not hit the back of the net today. A big presence, he disrupts defences well but lacks killer instinct.

Blake Powell – 4: Good movement as usual, though was unable toget through the Perth rear-guard. A below-par performance from the Australian.

Michael McGlinchey – 5: Nowhere near the form he showed last week, some glimpses of what he can do but was largely missing for Ernie Merrick.

Substitutes

Dylan Fox – 4: Came on for Durante and did his job in the second-half.

Vince Lia – N/A: Had not impact after his introduction.

Matthew Ridenton – N/A: Only touched the ball a few times.

Perth Glory

Ante Covic – 7: Did not have all that much to do in the first-half due to his defence having an outstanding night.

Mark Warren – 8: Uncompromising and dogged, he worked hard to the end.

Alex Grant – 8.5: Solid. Reliable. Fantastic. The young man continues to impress and perform.

Shane Lowry – 8.5: Dealt with everything that came his way and formed a formidable partnership with Grant.

Joshua Risdon – 7: The captain put in a decent shift in the right-back position. Handled McGlinchey and Doyle.

Gyorgy Sandor – 7: A cog in a well-oiled machine, did not stand out but did not do anything wrong either.

Krisztian Vadocz – 7: His early long-shot almost embarrassed Moss and he looked sharp throughout.

Richard Garcia – 7.5: Terrorised the Phoenix defence and set-up the first goal with a delightful cross.

Chris Harold – 7: Put himself about and riled the Phoenix defenders. Atrocious dive to earn a free-kick, but showed determination to set-up the second goal.

Andy Keogh – 8: Outstanding and clinical, the Irishman continued his run of good form. Sensational finish for the first goal.

Diego Castro – 7.5: Worked hard and caused the home defence problems. The persistence paid off for his goal.

Substitutes

Mitchell Oxborrow – 6: Picked up a yellow and did not do anything tochange the game.

Jamal Reiners – N/A: Introduced too late to do anything.

Dino Djulbic – N/A: Came on with the damage already done for Perth.
