You will never see a more spectacularly awful own-goal than this one…
During a pre-season friendly fixture between Torino and Benfica that finished 1-1, the Italian side’s defence gifted their Portuguese opponents the most bizarre own-goal you’ll ever witness.
In the 10th minute of play, Benfica sent a long throw-in toward the penalty box crowded with players. This is what happened next…
Keeper drops catch in mid-air, followed by a second spillage at ground-level ✅
One central defender has the ball deflected off his boot from the spillage ✅
A fellow defender attempts to clear the ball out of side by angling it toward goal ✅
The ball funnily trickles into the back of the net ✅
All that is needed now is the Benny Hill music. Oh wait…
Possibly the most spectacularly awful own-goal you’ll see.
If only we had the Benny Hill music. Oh wait… pic.twitter.com/6aDTbygnkN

Given the reputation of Italian teams defences, that is not a particularly great advertisement.
