Melbourne Victory have defeated Sydney FC 3-1 in a behind closed doors friendly at AAMI Park.

Victory have continued their undefeated pre-season campaign with a dominant display against the Sky Blues.

Besart Berisha opened the scoring on 16 minutes slotting a penalty after new signing Mitch Austin was fouled in the box.

Three minutes later, Sydney’s Brandon O’Neill, who joined the club from Perth Glory in 2015, equalised with a fierce shot from outside the box.

Marco Rojas showed a sign of things to come in his first appearance back in the blue and white on 36 minutes, finishing well from a James Troisi cross on the counter, as the home side went into the half with a 2-1 advantage.

Former Central Coast Mariners winger Austin then further pressed his claims for first-team selection by scoring in the 69th minute to put Victory 3-1 up.

Kevin Muscat’s side will head to Adelaide on the 14th to the face the Reds in another behind closed doors friendly at Coopers Stadium as they prepare for the FFA Cup quarter-final clash against Bentleigh Greens later in the month.

Like Victory, Sydney FC will also be clashing with local opposition in the next round of the FFA Cup, facing Blacktown City on the 21st at Edensor Park.
