The Jose Mourinho era has begun at Old Trafford with Manchester United’s best start to a Premier League season in five years.

The Red Devils kept up their perfect start to 2016-17 thanks to Marcus Rashford’s last minute goal in a 1-0 win over Hull City on the weekend.

It was a result which captain Wayne Rooney believes typifies the new spirit that Mourinho is instilling at the club.

“Jose has brought that experience in, that winning mentality again. That’s showing in the players and it’s maybe lacked over the last couple of years,” Rooney said.

“I think that’s the big difference…we’ve got players who were starting every game last season on the bench and some players haven’t even travelled.

Living up to his moniker, the Portuguese became the first manager since the 1940s to win his first three games in charge of United. Returning from the international break with a Manchester derby against league leaders City, Rooney is seeing signs of big things to come for his teammates this season.

“You look at the years when Jose won the title at Chelsea, they always started well. I think the way it’s been for us the last two or three seasons, it was important for us as a team,”

“It’s early but you want to try to build momentum and especially going into the international break. To go there with three wins is important, and with the next game being Man City.
