Valencia have finalised the signing of Ezequiel Garay from Zenit St Petersburg on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee, the club confirmed today.

The 29 year old Argentine centre back shapes as a direct replacement for Skhodran Mustafi, who joined Arsenal earlier this week.

Garay follows Eliaqium Mangala as Pako Ayesteran’s second deadline day signing.

Garay has made 32 appearances for the Argentina national team, including the heartbreaking 2014 World Cup final loss to Germany.

The defender is no stranger to the Spanish League, having previously featured for Racing Santander and Real Madrid, where he attracted heavy interest from Manchester United.

Valencia have had an eventful transfer window, as Ayesteran aims to re-shape his squad after a nightmare season last time out. The high profile departures of Mustafi to Arsenal and young star Paco Alcacer to Barcelona have been matched with similarly class players coming in, such as Garay, Eliaquim Mangala, Munir El Haddadi and Luis Nani.

Currently sitting bottom of La Liga, the Blanquinegros will look to get their campaign up and running against Real Betis on the 12th of September.
