Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko is set to make a deadline day switch to Tottenham Hotspur, with the club parting with a reported £30m for the Frenchman’s signature.

Sky Sports are reporting that Newcastle have accepted the bid, which came after an initial offer of £16 – one that was rejected.

The move comes after Sissoko spoke in glowing terms of Spanish giants Real Madrid, when he was asked how it felt to be linked with the 11-time Champions League winners.

“I was waiting for my time and it may be arriving,” Sissoko told L’Equipe.

“It’s flattering,” the midfielder responded when asked about how he felt being linked with the likes of Real Madrid.

“Who would not be flattered by the interest of one the best clubs in the world, if not the best? Rejecting Real (Madrid) is difficult. Working under Zinedine Zidane could be something fantastic.”

The 27-year-old scored 12 goals in 133 appearances with Newcastle, and despite being a relative mainstay in the France squad, could not help Newcastle avoid relegation to the Championship after a poor 2015-16 Premier League campaign.
