Roma (4-2-3-1)

Wojciech Szczesny – 5: When a defence plays as badly as Roma’s did last night you can only have sympathy for their goalkeeper. Szczesny made a good save from Messi early on, but then had the indignity of picking the ball out of his net six times.

Maicon – 2: Got absolutely obliterated for 90 minutes by the livewire Neymar. That included giving his Brazilian compatriot too much space in the build-up to the opener and losing Messi for his first goal.

Antonio Rudiger – 3: Another defender with an evening to forget. The German was rash in the tackle and generally all over the place as Barca laid siege on the Roma goal.

Kostas Manolas – 4: Made some decent blocks to deny opposition chances, but was woefully exposed as the leader of the Roma defence.

Lucas Digne – 1: Possibly the worst of a bad bunch, Digne gave Dani Alves and Messi the freedom of his left-flank – and they duly obliged to devastating effect.

Seydou Keita – 4: Ended up as an extra centre-back and did not exactly aid Roma’s cause against his former club – although how he was ever a Barca player beggars belief.

Miralem Pjanic – 4: Was forced back to uncomfortable defensive positions by Barca’s attacking prowess and struggled to get on the ball as a result.

Radja Nainggolan – 3: Failed in his role as the midfield enforcer and only made it to halftime.

Alessandro Florenzi – 5: Ended up as more of a wing-back than a winger and succeeded in keeping Alba quiet, but offered nothing going forward.

Iago Falque – 4: Failed to provide an attacking option down the left, while also not supporting his fullback against the runs of Alves, Messi and company. Also missed a good chance in the second half.

Edin Dzeko – 5: Missed a glorious chance to put Roma ahead but blazed his header over the bar from six yards out, missed a penalty and scored a last minute consolation. That sentence effectively sums up Dzeko as a player.
