Barcelona (4-3-3)

Marc Andre ter Stegen – 6: Was largely left twiddling his thumbs in his own penalty box, but saved a Dzeko penalty when called upon and could not do much about the Bosnian’s consolation goal.

Dani Alves – 8: Worked hard up and down the right, typically playing as more of a winger than a full-back. He set up the opener for Suarez when he could have gone for goal himself and even more unselfishly left the ball when he could have tapped home for Messi’s first goal.

Gerard Pique – 7: Found himself the furthest player up the pitch for his goal, and dealt well with Dzeko in his more familiar defensive end.

Thomas Vermaelen – 6: Solid enough, despite looking a bit dubious in possession now and again.

Jordi Alba – 6: Got forward occasionally on the left though not as effectively as Alves on the other flank – but then again when you have Neymar on the left, there is not exactly a great need to get forward so much.

Sergio Busquets – 5: Did fairly well in acres of space vacated to him, but was withdrawn at halftime with the match won.

Sergi Roberto – 7: When you have Neymar, Messi and Suarez in this form all your midfield needs to do is supply the passes to set them free, and that is exactly what Sergi Roberto did.

Ivan Rakitic – 6: Linked up nicely with Dani Alves at times, but lacked a bit of creativity.

Lionel Messi – 9: Most normal players would take a bit of time to bed themselves back in after two months out, but not Messi. The little magician scored twice and looked like he had never been away, including rounding-out a sublime 27-pass move with a cheeky chip for his first goal and setting up Pique with an open goal.

Luis Suarez – 10: Suarez is absolutely on top form right now, not only scoring two but notching two assists. His second was a beautiful volley and he then laid on Messi’s opener with a beautifully-lofted pass over the defence. This was an exceptional performance from Europe’s hottest property right now.

Neymar – 8: He may not have scored or assisted any goals, but his threat down the left was instrumental in this runaway victory. He gave aging right-back Maicon a night to forget, but was too casual on his poorly taken penalty.

Substitutes

Marc Barta – 6: Came on for Pique just before the hour=mark and looked solid enough at the back.

Adriano – 7: Came on for Sergi Roberto, and scored following Neymar’s missed penalty.

Sergi Samper – 7: Replaced Busquets at halftime and looked composed on the ball.
