The Premier League has thrown everything at the fans in this gripping 2015-16 season. Being completely honest, it has all been a bit too much for some to handle.

We have grown accustomed to the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City in the top four year in and year out. It has actually gotten a bit boring and predictable.

The talking point of this year has been Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City and so it should be, but what about Tottenham?

This is a club that many did not have in their top four at the beginning of the campaign. Everyone had just come to the conclusion that they are not a team that fight for league titles and Champions League places.

The majority of Premier League experts were talking about how this is Arsenal’s year and it could very well be, but it would be wrong to write off their North London rivals.

Tottenham might not be the largest club in the land, but they are a team that should always achieve more than what they do. The tendency is to always have a decent squad of players that are capable of winning football matches and this season we are beginning to see that come to reality.

After coming off a successful stint at Southampton, Mauricio Pochettino was brought in at the beginning of last season, deemed the perfect fit for what the Spurs wanted to achieve.

Playing a fast paced and high-press brand of football, they are certainly exciting to watch.

Pochettino is not the type of manager that is into looking for solutions in the transfer window, he is more the type of manager that looks within the academy and the senior group of players. To back the argument, the Lilywhites are the youngest side in the league this season with an average age of 24.

Which player will be crucial to Tottenham’s title hopes?

Looking at the group of players Pochettino has to work with, they are not show-stopping individuals, but they are a solid combined group.

Starting with the goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris is one of the finest in his position. Constantly proving he is one of the best custodians in England’s top-flight, he will remain a vital cog in the starting XI if Spurs are going to win the league.

Arguably, they also have the best centre-back pairing in the league. Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld have been superb in the back four this season, both possessing every quality needed in a centre-back. They are strong, good in the air, can pass out and their positional sense is astute.

After what was a slow start to the new season, Harry Kane has eventually found his feet in attack. 16 goals in 26 games is a solid return from Tottenham’s star man and their chances of winning the league depend on keeping this man fit and firing.

Christian Eriksen continues to show why the club spent heavily to bring him to White Hart Lane. Playing in the No.10 role, he certainly remains the key man when it comes to creativity and the odd goal. His winner against Manchester City on the weekend further emphasised that he is capable of taking a chance when it is presented.

Similar to when Raheem Sterling sprung on the scene, Dele Alli has lit up the Premier League from the word go. Coming in from MK Dons, he is way beyond his years and at only 19-years of age he, will only become more of a threat for Pochettino. The moment many Premier League rivals really begun to believe that this youngster is going to be something special was when he scored that outrageous goal against Crystal Palace. It would be fair to say that many other clubs have missed out big time for his signature.

Apart from defeats to Manchester United and Leicester, Spurs have been fantastic in the big games. League titles can very much be won on these occasions and who knows, maybe those points will prove the difference. It is easier said than done, but winning the games you should be winning can be as much of challenge as well. That has not been an issue for Spurs as of yet, but it needs to continue.

The biggest concern with this squad is that it is not full of depth. If someone such as Kane was to go down to injury it would seriously put their title credentials at risk. If everyone stays fit and continues their stunning form then there is no reason why they can’t win the league. It is genuinely that wide open and the likes of Tottenham need to take full advantage of it.
