Western Sydney Wanderers manager Tony Popovic says tomorrow’s FFA Cup quarter-final clash with Melbourne City has come at the right time ahead of the A-League’s beginning on October 7th.

Popovic claims his players are looking forward to the start of the season and that his squad are in a better position than this time last year.

“It’s a very long preseason and you can see the players are now very keen, very focused,” the former Socceroo told reporters.

“There is a big game tomorrow that they all want to be a part of, and just around the corner there is the start of the A-League.

“So tomorrow we will pick the best available team. And then we have a couple of more games, where we can give more minutes to some players that haven’t had so many.”

The Wanderers will be looking to improve on last year’s quarter-final exit in the cup competition when they travel to Melbourne.

“It’s a great game, in terms of it’s a competitive game. Both teams I’m sure want to win,” Popovic added.

“We want to see the improvements we feel we have made in the preseason, we want to see that come out in the game tomorrow.

“It will be good to show some good form, a good performance leading in [to the A-League].”
